FITBIT COACH

Fitbit Coach is video workout application for iPhone, Android, web, and Fitbit device applications. Fitbit Coach customizes workouts for users based on their feedback and Fitbit tracker activity.

After each exercise, users provide feedback on whether each move was too difficult, too easy, or just right. Fitbit Coach utilizes this information to create personalized fitness programs to help users reach their fitness goals, and continues to tailor workout recommendations as users progress on their journey. Each time users come back to the app, they are served a new workout session that is customized specifically for their current fitness level and modified based on recent tracker activity. If users went for a recent bike ride, the curriculum algorithm might recommend a session focused on your arms so that you can go easy on your legs.

The release of the redesigned and rebranded Fitbit Coach app was a large scale and complex initiative, involving integrated coordination between several departments across multiple programs. At the onset of the project, a core team of product designers, project managers, and discipline leads collaborated to outline the product vision, requirements, and specifications.

The initiative of rebranding Fitstar to Fitbit Coach required an overhaul of the application interface, rebuilding of the dynamic video player platform, and several hours of 4k multi-camera-angle video footage.  We set out to film over 600 exercise move sequences performed by male and female trainers against a brand new set, designed and constructed in line with our brand vision. A production crew of over 30 members and a talent roster of 17 models were sourced and engaged, executing on a rigid set of deliverables over an ambitious 7-day shoot schedule.  An immense volume of workout instructions were developed in line with a complex curriculum grid, and this content was then translated in 4 languages and recorded by 10 voiceover artists. Much of this process required the simultaneous development of internal proprietary tools to process, mark up, and implement the content within the Fitbit video platform.

As part of the cross-program execution of Fitbit Coach, our team was responsible for leading the strategic and logistical dissemination of release requirements, product knowledge and branding materials for execution across the organization and Fitbit product ecosystem. A large fleet of teams were reliant upon our team to drive the deployment of key components, including customer support, sales, press, marketing, group health, device, and ecommerce properties. Furthermore, the update of Fitbit Coach was a major piece of the software offering presented by Fitbit at CES 2017, thus requiring a large scale and concerted effort to develop supporting marketing collateral against a firm and high profile launch date.
